Time well spent

Deeply felt learnings from this program

I have got to say I have learned a lot being a part of this experience. I feel one thing I took from it was the different perspectives that everyone had on so many subjects. I am glad I had the opportunity to learn from so many others.

Another thing learned is the teamwork that developed amongst us to share ideas to improve on our knowledge.

Finally, I learned that so many others are advocating for the same things and the same goals; this is an. amazing thing to know and feel.

Long-term goal

A long-term goal I have is to continue to learn to improve my own knowledge and skills to hopefully be in in a better position to help others with all that I have gained through my studies.

Farewell Messages

To my colleagues, thank you all so much for the feedback and the encouragement with your words.

To my instructor,  thank you for being patient as I had a troubling time during my class and for teaching me some very exciting new information.

I wish all the best now and in the future.

Jobs/Roles in ECE community National federal level

On the National Network To End Domestic Violence site (http://nnedv.org/) they had a job opportunity for an internship. This would have no money attached to it but the experience alone would be the reward. I am a people person and love to help others and get to know others and their stories. I would love to help someone out and see him or her get a new start.

On the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence site (http://www.ncadv.org/), a Transitional Housing Advocate position was listed that was interesting to me. Again, I love to interact with people and help them out any way I can. Experience would be high school diploma, 2 years human service work, 40 hours of survivors of domestic violence training. In addition, you must be 21 or older.  Other requirements are be able to work in a crisis, work as a team, be bi-lingual, complete paperwork in a timely manner, have knowledge, and practice conflict resolution

On the other site, The National Center on Domestic Violence, Trauma, & Mental Health (http://www.nationalcenterdvtraumamh.org/resources/national-domestic-violence-organizations/), I saw no job postings. But, if they had a volunteer program again I would love to help out and give back.

Adjourning a Group

This week you read about the five stages of team development: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. Consider the adjourning phase for several of the groups in which you have been involved. Think about which aspects of the groups made for the hardest good-bye. Are high-performing groups hardest to leave? Groups with the clearest established norms? Which of the groups that you participated in was hardest to leave? Why? What sorts of closing rituals have you experienced or wish you had experienced? How do you imagine that you will adjourn from the group of colleagues you have formed while working on your master’s degree in this program? Why is adjourning an essential stage of teamwork?

I want to start off by saying I do not like groups at all. I would rather be responsible for my own grade and fate. So, as far as having trouble leaving a group never had trouble doing it because I was happy to have it over with. I really never experienced a closing ritual. I just did my work and left the group. Did the minimal contact and doing the project and moved on. I did my parts and contributed to the situation when needed and finished with the project.

How I will leave my colleagues I will take the knowledge I have gained from them and carry it over in the work I do. I will keep a piece of them in that respect. I am imagining that I will not be able to keep in contact with them. Due to the fact that we are so scattered across the world.

I think everything needs closure to be able to move on in your life. It brings new knowledge and experiences. We take a little bit from everything we do in a group.

Nonviolent Communication and Conflict Management

I am thinking of a current situation I am dealing with right now in regards to two different curriculums we have to implement and we are not Seeing Eye to eye on it. One wants one thing and it a certain way and of course the other another way. Which causes the teachers to become frustrated and not know what anyone wants. Leading to us not having much confidence in what we are doing and how we are doing it.  One strategy I used was having a meeting with everyone and expressing my concerns. This really did not have much resolution. More of us just continuing to express our concerns and met with yes they know how frustrated we are but not sure just yet how to fix it.  The other technique used was compromise. We asked if there was a way to blend the two curriculums and one was on board the other is having a hard time seeing it. She is seeing only through her lens of her curriculum.  My only other solution is now I have gone again to my supervisor asking for yet another meeting. That is yet to take place. This situation is just not working out.  In other words. I have not yet found a good strategy for this.

My colleagues are on the same page. We are all feeing very unsure of what we are to do.  We have all been very verbal and expressed our concerns. But, it is all being met with unsurity. So, we all continue to find a way to get our point across. Their response just keep letting them know our concerns and keep letting them know how frustrated we are with the situation.

What Kind of Communicator I Am

Nothing surprised me because I know what kind of communicator I am. As I put in the result, I knew what they would be. Because, I know how I react in all the situations.  Insights I gained you always have to take the time and listen and respect others while they are speaking you never know what you might gain from this. Make yourself available to speak to. Be approachable.

Do I find myself communicating differently with people from different groups and cultures?

No, I try not to. I only do if I there is a language barrier. I will slow down my speech so that I am not rushing and that way they can understand what I am saying. Or if need be I will get a translator. I do not look at others from different places different from me. Only that they may not understand my language. I do not want the parents to have a bad impression and feel they are being treated different just because they are not from this country.
